Science Fiction vs Fantasy, science vs. magic and other madness

Ted Chiang looks at "Technology, magic and consciousness" and starts opposing magic vs science. It's quite an odd argument, especially when you are talking about real world science vs. fictional world magic. Jeff Vandermeer and his Evil Monkey are inspired by a locked door and a bottle of vodka to go on an extended discussion of the subject. He finds Chiang's argument unsatisfying.
