Fafhrd & the Gray Mouser returns to comics

Fascinating article from SciFi Wire about Dark Horse Comics and Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser. Dark Horse will not only be doing a comic book about Fritz Leiber's sword and sorcery heroes, they will also be reprinting all of the novels and short story collections. That's the best part of the whole thing, to me.

The article also mentions they have movie rights. I actually don't want to see a Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser movie. I just know a movie wouldn't find the right balance, it would be either too campy or too serious. It wouldn't have Leiber's great sense of humor and action.

Also mentioned at the end of the article, Dark Horse is looking for the rights to other Robert E. Howard characters. (They already do a Conan comic book, which I thought was OK, but didn't keep me reading.) I must admit, I would like to see Solomon Kane in comic form.

Wow, a Solomon Kane comic would be great. I haven't been reading the Conan comic ( I can't afford everything man!) but I did start reading the Conan Book of Thoth (issue #2 out now) and I've really enjoyed it. And at $4.99 for 48 pages I feel like I'm getting my money's worth. Very literate writing and great art as well. I recommend it.

I found this list of Kane comic appearances.

Looks like he had a Marvel mini series. I'll have to track that down.

And check this out!

Holy crap, that statue is awesome.

I remember reading that there used to be a Thongor comic book as well. Thongor was Lin Carter's barbarian character. However, it was dropped when Marvel picked up the rights to Conan.

Yes, Thongor was in "Creatures on the Loose" - I have a couple but I haven't got around to reading them yet. Here's a pretty good page:

That site is interesting. I only had heard about the Thongor comics, it's nice to see some images from it there. Also, I had no idea that George Alec Effinger worked in comics, nevermind this one in particular. Your resources amaze me Professor!

I do have a couple of the Thongor books, and I too have not gotten around to them. I remember trying to read one when I was a kid and not getting very far. I've been in a sword & sorcery mood lately, perhaps I will have to give them another shot.
